Lisa’s Spark of Hope began with one woman’s compassion during one of the most difficult seasons of her life. While receiving her own chemotherapy and radiation treatments, Lisa Marie Lamb noticed something that stayed with her: not every patient had the small comforts that could help them get through long treatment days. Some did not have snacks, water, activities, or the simple essentials that could bring a little ease, distraction, and encouragement during their hard journey.
Wanting to make a difference, Lisa reached out to family and friends and began putting together a few goody bags for fellow patients. Her first goal was to make 25 bags, but with the support of the people around her, she surpassed that goal and made 50. Each time she gathered supplies and assembled bags, the number grew, and so did the hope she was able to share. Before Lisa passed away on January 3, 2024, she had donated 150 cancer care bags. More importantly, she had started a mission rooted in kindness, comfort, and the belief that no one should feel forgotten during treatment. Before her passing, her loved ones promised they would continue her efforts and keep her mission alive.
That promise became action. In December 2024, Lisa’s mother and sister continued the gift bag tradition by assembling 200 bags in her memory. Then, in January 2025, family and friends began talking about forming an official nonprofit organization to carry on what Lisa had started. The first interest meeting was held in March 2025, and by May 2025, Lisa’s Spark of Hope, Inc. was fully incorporated.
Through fundraisers, dedication, and the love of a growing community, Lisa’s Spark of Hope continued to shine. In December 2025, the organization donated 300 cancer care bags, with half going to the Oneonta treatment center and half to the Cooperstown treatment center. In 2026, the organization is on track to assemble another 300 bags, adding even more essentials to support patients during treatment. What began as Lisa’s simple act of care has become a lasting legacy. Lisa’s Spark of Hope continues to honor her life by carrying forward her compassion, one care bag at a time.
